Microwave Running But Food Is Still Cold?
You put your food in, the microwave hums, the turntable spins, the light is on — but when the timer finishes, the food is as cold as when you put it in. This is one of the most common microwave faults in Nairobi.
⚠️ Safety Warning
Do NOT attempt to open or repair a microwave yourself. Even when unplugged, the internal high-voltage capacitor stores a charge strong enough to cause a fatal electric shock. Always use a certified technician.
Why Your Microwave Isn't Heating
1. Failed Magnetron (Most Common)
The magnetron generates the microwave radiation that heats food. When it fails, everything else works but no heat is produced. Magnetron replacement costs Ksh 3,000–5,000 — well below the cost of a new microwave.
2. Blown High-Voltage Fuse
The high-voltage fuse protects the magnetron circuit. When it blows (often due to a KPLC power surge), the microwave may still turn on but won't heat. Fuse replacement costs Ksh 1,500–2,500.
3. Defective Diode
The high-voltage diode converts AC power to DC for the magnetron. A failed diode prevents heating and often causes a loud buzzing sound. Replacement costs Ksh 1,500–2,500.
4. Faulty Door Switches
Microwaves have 2–3 door safety switches that cut power to the magnetron if the door isn't properly closed. A faulty door switch can prevent heating even when the door appears fully closed.
Is It Worth Repairing Your Microwave?
In most cases, yes. Magnetron replacement at Ksh 3,000–5,000 is a fraction of a new equivalent microwave (Ksh 8,000–25,000). We repair microwaves from Samsung, LG, Panasonic, Sharp, Mika, Ramtons, Whirlpool, and all other brands across Nairobi. Book a repair now.
